Investor 2 Resident Visa

  • You may qualify for a Investor 2 Resident Visa if you can make more than NZ$ 3 million investment in New Zealand, and you have at least 3 years of experience in running a business. This investment-based visa is also known as Resident Investor Visa.

  • Investor 2 Resident Visa works on a points-based system – you can accumulate points for the duration of your business experience, size of your investment, your English-speaking skills and age. You can claim more points if you place NZ$ 750,000 in growth investments.

  • Note that INZ has an annual limit of 400 Resident Investor Visas, so get in before the quota for this year runs out.

  • What does the New Zealand Investor 2 Resident Visa application process look like?

  • You begin by sending your Expression of Interest (EOI) to INZ. The EOI must include proof of the investment you want to commit and your business experience. If INZ accepts your EOI, they will invite you to make a formal Resident Investor Visa application.

  • What are the conditions of an Investor 2 Resident Visa?

  • In addition to the qualification requirements stated above, you also need to satisfy the following conditions, you must:

  • Be 65 years old or less

  • Stay in New Zealand for more than 146 days in the last 3 years out of the 4-year investment term, or more than 438 days during the entire 4-year span. There are some variations to this condition depending on how you structure your investment

Entrepreneur Work Visa

  • If you want to test the waters before moving to New Zealand permanently, an Entrepreneur Work Visa is a great way for you to check out the entrepreneurial scene in the country.

  • You can start a new business or buy an existing one once your New Zealand Entrepreneur Work Visa is approved. Based on specific conditions, you may even apply for residence under the Entrepreneur Residence Category after 6 months or 2 years.

  • How do you qualify for Entrepreneur Work Visa?

  • INZ has placed the following requirements for a New Zealand Entrepreneur Work Visa; you must:

  • Provide a detailed business plan

  • Invest NZ$ 100,000 or more in your business – note that this requirement can be relaxed for businesses with exceptional potential for growth or innovation. The waiver also applies to businesses catering to fields associated with science or ICT (Information and Communications Technology).

  • INZ places the following conditions on Entrepreneur Work Visa; you cannot:

  • Avail or seek any kind of welfare assistance during the time you spend in New Zealand. The same applies to anyone whose visas are dependent on your Entrepreneur Work Visa.

You will have to be self-employed with your business for 6 months and must have employed at least 3 New Zealand citizens or residents. Additionally, your minimum investment in the business must be NZ$ 500,000.

  • Live, work and study in New Zealand for any amount of time

  • Include your partner and dependent children aged less than 24 years in your residency application

  • How long can you stay in New Zealand on Global Impact Visa?

  • GIV allows you to live in New Zealand for 36 months.

  • New Zealand Global Impact Visa allows you to:

  • Live, study and work in the country during the length of your visa

  • Apply for permanent residence after you finish 30 months with the EHF

  • Work in any location and for any employer, including self-employment

  • During your stay in New Zealand on a GIV, make sure you keep these visa conditions in mind:

  • You cannot include your partner or dependent children in your GIV visa application. They may apply for separate visas by virtue of being related to you

  • You must retain the support of EHF to qualify for New Zealand Residency

  • You cannot seek or receive any welfare assistance while you live in New Zealand

  • You must work through the process of getting accepted by the Edmund Hillary Foundation, which only happens twice a year, and make it to the 400 GIVs per 4-years quota. Additionally, you must not breach any visa conditions if you want to apply for Permanent Residency.
